  • MiguelMiguel Riding Level: 2,322
    @famous
Custom made for your bike? $120? I know a guy.

Otherwise, get a $20 Wald rack
  • JoshJosh Riding Level: 824
    Don't get a wald
  • MiguelMiguel Riding Level: 2,322

    Don't listen to josh
  • LurveyLurvey Riding Level: 416

  • tvcbtvcb Riding Level: 1,388
wald racks. good for keeping your gloves and hats in one place in your closet
  • MiguelMiguel Riding Level: 2,322
    You guys are fuckin crazy
Unless you consistently carry 25lbs of shit, a Wald basket is more than fine. Get the adjustable stays and a few bungees and you're all good.
  • jerryjerry Riding Level: 4,339
@tvcb just solved my organizational woes!
  • JoshJosh Riding Level: 824
    We
    are not
    crazy

Wald baskets are garbage if you're carrying anything more than a U lock and a hoodie in it.
  • CekteCekte Riding Level: 1,167
Meh. Wald = not worth their weight in scrap
Just use a shitty shopping basket then, works just as well.

CUSTOM DESIGN HAND MADE LOCAL ORGANIC
  • LurveyLurvey Riding Level: 416
pass and stow or get the fuck out of my face
  • CekteCekte Riding Level: 1,167
Soma, Velo Orange, Minoura, Nitto, TCB, Pass and Stow, etc..

    My opinion might be invalid...

I've tried Wald, Cetma, and now am using the PDW Takeout basket, all loaded to their minimums and maximums. So far I've hated riding my bike with all 3, with the Wald basket being by far the worst. Oh and I also hated the ride quality with panniers on the back wheel.

I should probably just stick to a backpack.
  • jerryjerry Riding Level: 4,339
or get on the wait list for an integrated vanilla fork/rack, peasant.
  • LurveyLurvey Riding Level: 416
    haha wuut, link that shit
  • LurveyLurvey Riding Level: 416
I have a cetma. it works good with a bag on it. really the only weight limit is what you can handle riding with. but basically any weight at all and the ride quality feels like shit. really makes you appreciate your bike when you take it off.
  • jerryjerry Riding Level: 4,339
that's the thing with loading the front of a bike, unless you get the weight down near the axle (lowrider and panniers) the front end is going to flop all over the place and make steering a real fuck.

however, the convenience of being able to toss on a large box or strap down a hoodie and a backpack far outweighs the anal pain of loading and unloading dual pannies.

    I have on my bikes:

Wald rack on the beater, works fine for taking my lock to the bar
TCB Rack on the commuter, favorite rack
Cetma on the big bike, works fine and havent touched it in 4 years
Orc rack on the Kogswell, best money I have spent on racks

    I like racks.

I'm about this close to selling my PDW rack... Anyone interested
  • MiguelMiguel Riding Level: 2,322
please, whoever was asking, do NOT get a soma or VO rack.
  • CekteCekte Riding Level: 1,167
Wat?! You recommend a Wald, but not a Soma or VO?
I have a Soma porteur and it's quite nice actually. Better designed than my tcb atmo
  • MiguelMiguel Riding Level: 2,322
theres a bit of a price difference between the three.

see those little things that mount to your wheel? yea those. those flex. A LOT. especially with heavy loads.
    image
    THIS one is even WORSE
and how do they attach to the fork crown? a flat tab. that flexes.
it's pretty much the same tab used on a nitto rack. that flexes.
the reason why your tcb rack works well is because of this dude:
    image
you can mount it front or back and it actually responds quite easier than this bitch
    image
see that tab? that's a flexy mother fucker

now take a look at the pricing
    nitto m18 = $85
    soma porteur = $109.43
    velo orange porteur = $160 (!!!)
    tcb rack $120+
    wald 137 $15.49

    countries of origin?
    nitto: japan
    soma/VO: china
tcb: portland, USA, if you can still find one (there's one at city bikes)
